"Mentoring is a process where one person offers help, guidance and support, using empathy and practical experiences of their own, to facilitate the learning and development of another." Simon Fordham, ABM Chair
Our Purpose, Vision and Goals for the Future
The ABM is the professional body for business mentoring.
We are focused on promoting and maintaining the highest standards in professional business mentoring. To do this, we continually learn, improve and innovate, supporting our members as they deliver mentoring excellence that benefits businesses. We also champion the impact of professional business mentoring, ensuring that business mentoring is recognised as a vital part of the business support landscape by business leaders, political leaders and policy decision makers.
Here's our vision for the future.
As the UK's leading professional body for business mentoring, we will demonstrate the role and value that professional business mentoring brings to the success of businesses.
We will establish best practice and professional excellence for business mentoring, by shaping and setting professional standards that meet both immediate and future needs.
We will be the “go to” organisation for businesses looking for a professional business mentor.
We aspire to achieve Chartered status, reflecting the professional skills and competency of our members.
How are we making this happen?
We are building a collegiate community for members to share best practice.
We are supporting our members as they grow knowledge and skills with continuous learning, development and qualifications, all within a professional framework.
We are promoting professional standards of business mentoring, upholding the UK Professional Code of Conduct for Business Mentors and Business Mentoring and are a signatory of the Global Code of Ethics for Coaches, Mentors and Supervisors.
Through this, we are supporting the UK economy and business community by helping business owners find a trusted and qualified professional business mentor.
We are advocating for professional business mentoring with the business community and political decision makers, driving understanding of the impact of business mentoring and reinforcing the important role it plays in the business support landscape.
The ABM is a non-profit making organisation run by volunteer members for its members. The governance structure is a Chair, Director Board, Executive Team, Regional Heads and Members. We have a number of Committees that support the operations of the association. There are two paid members of the team, the Chief Executive and Administration Manager. We derive our income from membership fees and training. Any surplus is re-invested in promoting the ABM and professional business mentoring.
