    Profile

Successful executive leadership career at Which?, Europe’s largest independent consumer organisation. Over a 10-year period, I held 3 different roles on the Executive Leadership team: Editorial & Research Director, Policy Director and finally Deputy Chief Executive. I was the only member of the top team to have been promoted through the ranks. I was also an Executive Director on the Board of Which? Ltd, the trading company responsible for the organisation’s commercial activity with turnover of £100m pa, and an Executive Director of BGGI Ltd, a subsidiary set up to establish a Which?-type product in India.

I am now an experienced non-executive director: currently on the boards of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme and of Healthwatch England. I have previously sat as a non-executive on the boards of the Fundraising Standards Board and Consumers International.
Over a six-year period, I mentored a number of middle-manager colleagues who were part of our high-potential talent development programme.

The types of challenges that I mentored them on were: how to gain the experience they needed to move from strategy roles into operational management; how to build more effective relationships with colleagues, and increase their influence and impact; how to manage the challenging behaviours of more senior colleagues; and how to maintain their own energy and focus during a period of low team morale.

All three have now achieved more senior Director/MD-level roles - two within Which?, one outside.
