As mentors our ability to be flexible and adapt our manner and tone to the variety of personalities we work with can have a profound impact on the quality of relationship we develop. This ability starts with being aware of our own and others' uniqueness and being able to recognise different personality traits. We are very excited about being joined by Shirley Wakelin (Director, Transition Leadership Coaching) who has a keen interest in this very area.
About Shirley
Shirley is a leadership and team coach, facilitator and trainer. She has a particular interest in supporting young leaders transition into more senior roles, recognising the influence these roles have on the culture and engagement of the teams they lead.
She especially enjoys supporting talented employees as they’re promoted into their initial 1st line management roles. Taking on the responsibility of managing others for the first time is often a big stretch in our careers, and typically good people get promoted and often left to ‘get on with it’.
Her background of 20 years in the Pharmaceutical industry has given her a sound understanding of the complexities of organisational systems, and the challenges that leaders face.
Shirley is deeply curious about human psychology and why we behave the way we do. More recently she’s been learning more about what shapes our personality and to what degree we can adapt our behaviour given our underlying characters; the nature nurture debate.
Shirley partners with her clients to support their growing awareness of what they’re capable of, and to lean into the discomfort of growth. She believes that the more we’re enjoying what we do, the more effective we are. Self belief and confidence often emerge as themes. Shirley also encourages clients to acknowledge how they can get in their own and others’ way, and to co-create effective management strategies for these potential derailers.
Clients are primarily in the health sector including the Pharma industry, Medical device companies and health care agencies.
Shirley has a Certificate in Professional Coaching Skills with Coaching Development; a Certificate in Team Coaching with PB Coaching (now Novum) and David Clutterbuck; she’s a facilitator of Team Emotional Intelligence through Ei World; a Conversational Intelligence (CIQ) enhanced coach, and is accredited to use the Harrison Assessment Tool.
