In my new book Entrepreneur to Ultrapreneur – ... one of the sayings is “Overcome your Overwhelm and Overachieve”. Let me explain!
I believe that overachieving in business today is no longer a nice to have but an essential element to survival. If you ask anyone who’s started a business if they anticipated half the challenges they were met by I bet the answer would be no. And this is exactly the reason why overachieving is necessary.
If you’ve projected to make £100k in your first year but are met by these challenges you haven’t anticipated for then your target is in jeopardy. If your mindset or the culture of your company is to overachieve then by aiming for a £150 or £200k turnover with the same challenges in tow will give you a better chance of meeting your original target. The obvious upside is that you could make that £200k, how, by overachieving in all areas of your business not just a few.
According to Wikipedia:
Overachievers are individuals who “perform better or achieve more success than expected. The implicit presumption is that the “overachiever” is achieving superior results through excessive effort. In a teaching context, an “overachiever” is an educational label applied to students, who perform better than their peers when normalized for the instructor’s perceptions of background, intelligence or talent. In the workplace context, individuals who are deemed to be overachievers are those with the drive to complete tasks above and beyond expectations and who set very high career goals for themselves.
This is a mindset which Will Smith put into context in an interview a few years ago. He said what makes him distinctly different from everyone else is that his work ethic is – sickening. Define that as you ‘Will’ (pun intended) but it does suggest that working both hard and smart are the order of the day.
